Oxidative stress, defined as an imbalance between the production of reactive oxygen species and the antioxidant system, is a major toxic mechanism common to a wide range of diseases with significant societal impact (cardiovascular, neurodegenerative diseases, and cancer). A non-invasive method for detecting and mapping oxidative stress in vivo would enable direct monitoring of disease progression and would be invaluable for the development of diagnostic and therapeutic approaches. The NanoSPIN project aims to develop applications of electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) spectroscopy and imaging for the in vivo assessment of oxidative stress, relying on innovative nanoformulated molecular probes developed through collaboration between LCBPT and UTCBS.
